Value: people, community, culture and art

This year we celebrate twenty years of the E17 Art Trail and we have taken a moment to reflect on the impact artists, makers and storytellers have had on our community over these two decades. As we do so, one particular word comes to mind: Value. 

​

Our community is enriched by the people who live or work here, whatever their background. This diverse and dynamic population has seen artists flourish throughout our borough which has, in turn, attracted more creatives to make this their home or place of work. This is special. 

 

And yet, in these difficult economic times, art and culture is under threat. We are of the firm belief that experiencing art and creative pursuits has value and can nurture resilience, ingenuity, imagination and determination in the minds of everyone. The E17 Art Trail brings art to our doorsteps and showcases the artists and craftspeople within our neighbourhood. It invites us in to people's homes, studios, schools, community centres, shops, gardens and streets. Our Art Trail removes those sometimes invisible barriers to experiencing art and culture. 

 

But let's not forget that art and coming together with our neighbours simply brings us joy. And that has huge value. Those moments of connection with others are priceless.
